What is a Hill Climb?

Hill Climbing is one of Britain’s oldest forms of motorsport – each car is given a set number of runs up a hill, with the aim of being able to complete that run in the shortest time possible – as the day progresses the drivers become more familiar with the hill and find quicker and quicker times as they compete not only against the clock, but also against opposing drivers to set the fastest time of the day.

Shelsley What?

Shelsley Walsh is regarded as one of the best hill climb venues not only in the UK, but in the world. Set in the stunning Worcestershire hills, it opened in 1905, and has held events continuously since then, only pausing for World War II and the COVID 19 pandemic.

Shelsley Walsh is a great place to watch these cars in action – a walk up the hill will offer you outstanding views of the area and of each car as it aims to do its best.

Over the years, 1000s of cars have competed on the hill, with drivers such as Stirling Moss having tried their luck on the course – the fastest time ever on the hill was recorded in 2021 when Sean Gould completed the 1000 yrd (910m) course in just 22.37 seconds.

What else is happening?

Away from the action on the hill, there’ll be great options for food and drink, including a fully-licensed bar, all set in the beauty of Shelsley’s courtyard.

Motorsport fans of all ages will have the chance to win exclusive merch as the Hagerty Race Simulator returns for 2023, set the fastest time of the day in our 1963 Mini Cooper S and you could find yourself heading home with some money-can’t-buy swag!
